Who Cares For The Caregiver?

Caring for another human—whether it's your parent, your child, your partner, or other loved one—is an experience that challenges and changes us in ways both everyday and profound.
There's an old saying, "it takes a village to raise a child." But this is true for all caregivers, and when you're caring for your partner or your parents, there can be even less support. The costs to those who give so much of themselves are often overlooked, and caregivers' mental, physical, and spiritual health can become drained.

Self-Care Can Feel Out-of-Reach
Finding the time to enjoy activities that feed the body, mind, and spirit can be so difficult. The person needing care may require constant company or supervision. The caregiver may feel unable to face going out again after many nights of broken sleep or days and weeks of driving to and from appointments.
My Perspective as a Former Doula
When I was a doula, I saw close-up just how exhausting caregiving can often be, and I included follow-up visits with new parents to help them cope and find ways to create support and time for their own care.
Because I provide mobile massage, I have the privilege of seeing clients from all walks of life in the comfort of their own homes, offering a kind of care that can often help them open up and be honest with themselves about the challenges they face. When I work with caregivers, it's always clear to me just how much they could be helped by having a regular time that is just for them—something to look forward to when they feel exhausted or overwhelmed; something that will put water back in the well.
How Massage Helps Replenish Your Reserves
🌿You probably already know how much massage can help to fill that well. The nurturing touch of massage releases oxytocin, the “love hormone,” which can get really depleted when you’re running on determination, adrenaline, and coffee. It can give a huge boost to your spirits and help you see yourself and your loved one with renewed compassion.
🌿Sometimes you just don’t want to share your struggles with friends and family. A massage session can feel a bit like being in a barbershop, hair salon, or at a bar—it’s a natural space to open up. Unlike those situations, though, your massage practitioner is bound by their code of ethics to keep your confidentiality.
🌿Just having the opportunity to be cared for—when you’re doing so much of that yourself—can be a wonderfully affirming experience: "yes, I deserve care too."
By prioritizing your own care, you can refill your reserves of physical and emotional energy, and that’s good for you and your loved ones! Take the first step toward nourishing your body, mind, and spirit.

Making Care More Accessible
The Caregiver’s Massage Package
Having massage come to you can make it easier to get this life-affirming and rejuvenating care. But for many people, a full massage setup—the table, linens, scents, music, etc.—every week would take too much time out of their already packed schedule.
That’s how my Caregiver’s Massage Package was conceived. It’s a regular commitment to yourself that replenishes your well without breaking the bank or overtaxing your time.
A caregiver’s massage setup is quick and easy: all you need is your kitchen table, a chair, some pillows, and clothing that can be adjusted so you can receive massage in the areas that need attention. I bring lotion, a timer, and my listening hands, ears, and heart.

A Bonus for Your Mind: Meditation for People Who Suck at Meditation
Your membership also includes access to the Meditation for People Who Suck at Meditation group, which meets online Monday to Friday for a 10-minute meditation. With practice, meditation can improve your emotional resilience, taking some of the sting out of the harder parts of caregiving.
But don’t worry—you’re not obligated to attend every day (or at all, if it’s not for you or the timing doesn’t work). It’s simply a bonus that might be helpful for you.
One-on-One Guidance — You’ll also get a one-time personal session where I’ll guide you through the basics of meditation and answer any questions. There’s no pressure, no perfectionism—just practical tips to help you quiet your mind and find a little more calm in your day-to-day life.
Why I Believe in This — I’ve been meditating for over 15 years. When I started, I really did suck at it—and honestly, I still do! But despite my “imperfections,” meditation has profoundly changed how I feel and act in the rest of my life.
For example, it was invaluable in caring for my very anxious dog, who needed significant care—six hours a day, on average—since his cancer diagnosis in 2024.*

Knowing that you’ve made time for self-care—when you’re doing so much for others—can be a wonderfully affirming experience: "yes, I deserve care too."
By prioritizing your own care, you’ll become a more effective and compassionate caregiver. Take the first step toward nourishing your body, mind, and spirit.
